Who put this together
I'm Steve Kent. I've spent forty years in quality management, most recently as a Quality Manager and Quality Director, and roughly twenty of those years working specifically with ISO 9001 and its derivatives — AS9100 in aerospace, ISO 13485 in medical devices.
I've built quality systems from nothing and rebuilt ones that had quietly stopped working, and I've taken companies through certification audits on both sides of the table. The questions in this assessment are the ones I ask when I walk into a shop for the first time. The findings are the ones registrars actually write.

Before you start
- Is this really free?
- Yes. And I also offer a very cost friendly ISO 9001 implementation course and I do offer consulting, and some people who take this assessment will decide they want one or the other. Many won't, and either way, this assessment is free and still worth their time.
- Fifteen minutes is a long time.
- It is. ISO 9001 runs to seven clause sections and a five-question quiz can't tell you where you stand. You can save your progress partway through and pick it back up.
- We build to customer prints and don't design anything.
- Then answer one question at the start and the three design and development questions drop out of your assessment and your score entirely. The same applies to purchasing if your materials arrive on consignment.
- Should I wait for the 2026 edition?
- No, and you don't need to. This assessment already includes the four clause changes in the sixth edition: climate in your context analysis, quality culture and ethics at top management, the split between risks and opportunities in clause 6, and ethics awareness across your workforce. Certified companies get three years to transition. Companies certifying for the first time should build against the version that's about to be current.
- Who sees my answers?
- I do, and nobody else. Your results aren't shared, sold, or published, and there's no registrar or certification body on the other end of this.
- Will I get sold to?
